A flashback is when the author interrupts the story to describe an event to the reader which took place before the present time. Flashbacks may occur when a character has a memory of a past event, dreams, or through a concersation with another character. Flashbacks provide background information.
Tell us about one event in which Gary Paulsen used flashback in this novel. What was the event? What was the significance in the event? What proof do you have from the text?
I think one important flash back is when the author wrote that Brian had a flashback of when his mother was with, "him." It gives us more I formation of what the secret is, if we didn't already know. There are more of these flashbacks in this book, but I thought this was one of the most important, that led us to know what the "secret" is.
Hi, found your class randomly :>. Hope your all well!

One flashback from the story "Hatchet" was the memory of the secret that Brian's father knew nothing about. The secret of Brian's mother kissing a blonde man that was in the car sitting next to his mother when Brian was riding his bike.

Brian had many important flashbacks that helped him throughout his journey to survival. One flashback that helped him was the one where he was in class with his teacher his teacher was talking about never giving up if he didn't have that flashback than he would have given up who knows how that would have turned out.

In the book Hatchet, there are many flashbacks. One of the important flashbacks is when Brian remembers playing in the woods with Terry. Brian remembers that he built a fake lean-to shelter. Brian uses this memory to know that he must make a lean-to shelter to survive in the wilderness.
One flash back was the secret. That flash back is important because that is the whole reason the divorce happened and how he got stranded.

Brian had many flashbacks throughout his journey, but the one I noticed is the one about the raspberries. At first Brian had to eat the gut cherries, so he went to look for others. Then he saw it, the raspberries. He saw those berries when he went to the forest with Terry before he got stranded. That is the flashback I noticed

One very important flashback is when Brian's teacher always said never give up, and he said think positive. So Brian has not given up surviving in the wilderness yet.

One important flashback was when Brian was with his friend at the mall and he saw a guy and his mom kissing in a car.The significance was that Brian kept talking about the "secret" and that allows us to know what the secret is.

I think one important flashback that Gary Paulsen uses in "Hatchet" is when Brian sees his mother with the blond-haired man. I think this is an important event because it tells what "the secret" is, and Brian is highly troubled by it. There are more flashbacks in the book but I thought this was the most important.

I think the most important flashback is when he is recalling his teacher Mr. Perpich. He says, "Think positive." "You are your most valuable asset. Don't forget that. You are the best thing you have" I believe that if Brian didn't remember that flashback, he would have given up and just not do anything. That is why I think that this flashback is the most important flashback. This flashback happened on page 51, chapter 5.

I think that one of the most important flashback in Hatchet is when Brian and Terry were picking raspberries in the park. If he did not have it, he would have starved.

Their are many important flashbacks that help Brian survive in the wilderness. One of the flashbacks that Brian had is when he sees his mother with the blond headed man. Brian then remembers what "the secret" is. This flashback makes him mad and is willing to fight to get out of the Canadian woods.

In the story hatchet the main character Brian has many flash backs but the one that I noticed the most is when he flashed back to the time when he built a lean to with his friend Terry. That event was signifint because it reminds him of a structure that he can make to survive.

One flashback was when Brian thought of his mother with a diffrent man than his father. I think that this flash back makes him very angry witch I think motavates him to survive. He thinks about this throughout the story, and he seems to use it to ease himself. On page 93 it says "I wonder what my father is doing now. I wonder what my mother is doing now. I wonder if she is with him."

I believe an important flashback is when Brian remebers from 2 years ago when he and Terry where fooling around near the park and, pretending that they where lost in the woods. It helped decide what kind of shelter was the best. This is signifigent because he needed a shelter badly. Proof from the text is when Gary Paulsen says, "There were wolves, he thought, and bears-other things . In the dark he would be in the open here, just sitting at the bottom of a tree." Thats why I believe that was an important flashback.

one flash back in the book Hatchet is when Brian was thinking about his English teacher Perpich."Brian once had a English teacher, named Perpich, who was always talking about being positive." Brians flashback about Perpich. I think his flashback encouraged Brian to never give up.

Although Brian has had many flashbacks in the book "Hatchet" I am choosing the most important one: the one that describes "the secret." The secret is that Brian and his friend Terry were going for a run on a bike trail and took another route home that passed the Amber Mall. He looked over at Terry and over his head he saw his mother in a strange station wagon kissing a man with blonde hair and a pullover tennis top. This is an important event because he could remember the time, 3:31, the temperature, 82 degrees, and the date.

From the book one flash back was the secret kiss. That flash back is important because that is the whole reason the divorce happened and how he got stranded. "Saw the kiss that became the Secret that his father still did not know about," "A breaking word, an ugly breaking word. Divorce."

I think the most important flashback is when he remembered when his teacher told the class that you need fuel and air to make fire. I think this is the most important flashback because he needs fire to survive.

The flashback that I have chosen to write about is his mother cheating on his father. In the story Hatchet, Brian's mother was cheating with short blond hair. This is very significant because it was the reason that he was in the plane that crashed. The text says "The memory was like a knife cutting into him."

One important flashback from the novel "Hachet" is when Brian the main character has a flashback of him and his friend Terry. Brian and Terry were in the little woods and were pretending they were lost and had to survive. This reminded Brian of a shelter that they built and helped him decide what shelter he needed. He had been needing a shelter for two days now. An example of this is when Gary Paulsen states " In the dark he would be in the open here just sitting at the bottom of the tree." That is an important flashback.

I believe that one of the important flash backs is when Brian remembers himself, Terry, and his father and Terry tells him to make a fire even though he doesn't actually say anything this flash back is still very important.

One of the most important flashbacks is when Brian ends up seeing Terry and Terry gives Brian silent hints on how to make a fire. That was one of his happiest moments.

In the book so far, there have been a couple of flash backs for Brian. The one that comes to mind for me is when Brian had the dream just before he built his first fire. He was sleeping and had a dream. The dream was with his father and best friend. Brian tried very hard to figure out what his father was trying to tell him but he was able to figure out what Terry was saying. The dream told him that his hatchet was "the key to it all."
